西雅图 Pacific University, 西雅图 University Declare 支持 for Affordable 住房 Week, 5月日, 2017

The presidents of 西雅图 Pacific University and 西雅图 University, Dr. 丹尼尔·J. 马丁和史蒂文五世. Sundborg,年代.J., have declared 5月日, 2017, as Affordable 住房 Week on their campuses. They join the City of 西雅图, 金县, and 18 金县 cities in affirming the need for affordable housing.

To recognize the week, SPU’s Committee on 首页lessness will host a luncheon on Thursday, 5月18日, with student leaders to talk about strategies to provide more institutional support and collaboration around student involvement in addressing homelessness. Several students recently completed the annual “Urban Plunge,” a five-day immersion experience designed to help participants encounter people's stories and learn what resources are available to 西雅图's homeless population.

同样在5月18日, SU’s Project on Family 首页lessness will host a “Renter’s Rights 101” workshop, 6-8 p.m. Intended for new renters, 特别是学生, the workshop is co-presented by Tenants Union of Washington State, 是:西雅图, and Capitol Hill 住房. The workshop is free, and 登记 鼓励.

The proclamation recognizes the importance of safe, 健康的, affordable homes within communities of opportunity. Affordable 住房 Week, now in its second year, is hosted by the 住房 Development Consortium of 西雅图-金县. 西雅图 Mayor Ed Murray, 西雅图 City Council, 金县 Executive Dow Constantine, and the 金县 Council have signed proclamations supporting the week.

This is the first time both universities have participated; SU was the first university to sign on, in the inaugural year.

西雅图-area universities have long worked to engage their campus communities in addressing the region’s homelessness state of emergency. SU was the first university in the nation to host a tent city on campus in 2005, and SPU has hosted Tent City 3 twice. The University of Washington hosted Tent City 3 December 2016-February 2017.
