First Assignment for SPU students: Volunteer

Before classes begin at 西雅图 Pacific University, more than 700 students, 教师, 和工作人员, will spend Saturday, 9月24日, cleaning up parks, removing invasive plants in local creeks, and working in homeless shelters as part of SPU’s commitment to community engagement.

The annual event known as “CityQuest” is a way to introduce new students to the many community service organizations throughout the area. As part of its 125 anniversary celebration, SPU has set a goal of 125,000 hours of community service for the 2016-17 academic year.

Burke-Gilman Trail in the Inverness area

网易彩票app 60 students will join with Friends of the Burke-Gilman Trail at Sand Point to clear out invasive plants.

Redeeming Soles at 1244 Harrison Street in South Lake Union
Students will clean, 排序, and prepare shoes to distribute to underprivileged men, 女性, 和孩子.

Cheasty Greenspace 在南时28时09分. Alaska Place at Mt. View on Beacon Hill

网易彩票app 60 students will help with forest restoration in the 10-acre urban forest between the Lockmore neighborhood of Beacon Hill and Columbia City. The effort to clean up the area is headed by SPU alumna Mary DeJong.

Operation Nightwatch at 302 14th 大道的年代. in the Central Area

Students will help clean the organization’s main building. Operation Nightwatch was founded by SPU alumnus Reverend Rick Reynolds.

Friends of the Jungle/Dr. Jose Rizal Park at 1008 12 大道的年代 in North Beacon Hill

Students will help with trail maintenance, plus work in the stands of apple trees that make up the orchard in the park.
